Recommendations
- Choose tours with certified guides:
- Hire official guides or authorized tourism agencies to ensure a safe and informative experience. Local guides deeply understand the history and secrets of each place.
- Some tours, such as Machu Picchu or the Inca Trail, require reservations weeks or months in advance due to high demand and visitor limits.
- Many tours include hikes or visits to high-altitude locations. Take at least a day to acclimatize in Cusco before engaging in strenuous physical activities.
- Appropriate clothing: Wear layers, as the weather can change quickly. Include a rain jacket, hat, sunglasses, and comfortable shoes.
- Follow the rules at archaeological sites. Don’t touch structures and avoid leaving trash. Respect local customs and traditions.
- Carry your passport or ID, along with copies of your entrance tickets. Some places, like Machu Picchu, require identification to enter.
- Compare prices between agencies, but don’t choose based only on cost. Ensure the tour includes a guide and transport, and that the agency is formal and authorized. Also, always carry cash, as some places don’t accept cards or digital payments.
