Itinerary
Day 1: Inca Q’eswachaka Bridge, Last Inca Bridge
We begin with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco. We’ll then travel south along the highway toward Canas Province, enjoying views of Pomacanchi Lagoon and the enigmatic Urcos Lagoon, where it is said the last Inca ordered all the Empire’s gold to be transported to protect it from the Spanish. We’ll also visit the striking Pabellones Volcano and the mountain pass of the same name.
Upon arriving at “Q’eswachaka” (Qeshuachaca), we’ll explore its ancestral bridge, a legacy of a millennia-old tradition that encompasses art, architecture, and culture in the Andean world. This iconic bridge spans the majestic Apurímac River in Canas Province. Since the straw material of the last Inca bridge deteriorates annually due to the mountain climate, it requires maintenance every June, which entails a complete reconstruction. These days become celebrations for the local communities, reflecting an ancient custom.
