This short two-day excursion on the Inca Trail allows you to explore the most impressive sites on the route to Machu Picchu, such as Wiñaywayna. Upon arrival there, you can enjoy a delicious meal before visiting the ruins, and then continue on, passing through the Sun Gate to reach the Lost City of the Incas.

Afterwards, you will head to the beautiful town of Aguas Calientes, where you can have dinner at the most renowned restaurant before resting at your accommodation. For those looking for a shorter hike through the Andes, we offer a one-day option with a visit to Machu Picchu the following day.

Please note that it is recommended to book a hotel in the city center due to access restrictions. We cannot guarantee the accessibility of most Airbnbs, so we recommend informing us before making your reservation so that we can confirm if our transportation can reach that location.


Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Wiñayhuayna – Aguas Calientes

We will pick you up from your hotel at approximately 4:00 AM to take you to the Ollantaytambo train station. From there, we will board the train that will take us to KM 104, where we will begin our hike through a beautiful subtropical forest landscape.

Visit to the Chachabamba archaeological site (2,150 meters above sea level)
After approximately 3 hours of hiking, we will arrive at Wiñayhuayna, an impressive complex that includes an agricultural center with numerous terraces, a religious area, and an urban area.

Lunch: Our guide will provide us with a box lunch with spectacular views.
Next, we will begin the climb to Inti Punku (Sun Gate), which will take approximately 1 hour. This is the point from which we will enjoy our first view of the majestic Machu Picchu.
Finally, we will descend to Aguas Calientes, where we will spend the night in the selected accommodation.
The total duration of the hike is approximately 6-7 hours. You can enjoy the rest of the day relaxing in the hot springs of Aguas Calientes.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco

Very early in the morning, we will begin our hike to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu to watch the sunrise in this magical place before the arrival of other tourists.
We will enjoy the tranquility of the citadel during a guided tour of approximately two and a half hours, where we will explore the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Three Windows, the sundial, the Temple of the Condor, and the botanical garden.
Afterward, you will have free time to explore the surroundings of Machu Picchu.
In the afternoon, we will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Poroy or Ollantaytambo, where our vehicle will transfer you back to Cusco.

Recommendations

  • Pack as light as possible, as there are no porters on this hike.
  • Bring along your important documents, such as passport, valid student ID (if applicable), and migration card.
  • Carry a small and lightweight backpack for the journey.
  • Remember to bring a water reservoir, such as Camelbags, with a capacity of at least 2-3 liters.
  • Wear comfortable and lightweight hiking boots with good soles.
  • Don’t forget to include in your list toiletries items, such as sunscreen, facial moisturizer, insect repellent, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, toothbrush and toothpaste, toilet paper, personal medication, and a first aid kit.
  • Take note of the backpack size restrictions within Machu Picchu, backpacks larger than 25 liters will not be allowed.
  • Bring water for the first morning as there will not be time to filter water until the first lunch.
  • Don’t forget to bring a hat for the sun, rain gear, wool hat, camera, music, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, and a small plastic bag for waste.
  • Bring extra money for souvenirs, drinks, and tips.
  • Consider bringing earplugs for a better rest during the journey.
