Itinerary
Day 1: Cusco – KM 82 – Huayllabamba
We’ll pick you up from your hotel at 6:00 a.m. and head to Piscakucho (Km 82). We’ll begin our trek through the Sacred Valley, passing by the Inca city of Patallacta. After a day of trekking, we’ll camp at Huayllabamba (3,000 meters above sea level), where you’ll enjoy stunning views of the Vilcanota River and Verónica Mountains.
Day 2: Huayllabamba – Warmiwañusca – Pacaymayu
After a nutritious breakfast, we’ll begin the most challenging hike of the trip. We’ll ascend to the Abra Warmihuañusca (4,200 meters above sea level), where we can spot llamas and alpacas. Afterward, we’ll descend to the Pacaymayu Valley (3,600 meters above sea level) after about 9 hours of hiking.
Day 3: Pacaymayu – Chaquicocha – Wiñayhuayna
Today we will visit several archaeological sites. From Pacaymayu, we will ascend to the Runcurakay Pass (3,970 meters above sea level) and explore the archaeological complex of the same name. We will continue to Sayacmarca and Phuyupamarca, appreciating the grandeur of Inca architecture. Finally, we will camp at Wiñayhuayna (2,700 meters above sea level), near an important Inca agricultural center.
Day 4: Wiñayhuayna – Machu Picchu – Cusco
At 4:00 a.m., we’ll begin our hike to Intipunku (Sun Gate) to enjoy the sunrise over Machu Picchu. After descending, we’ll take a two-hour guided tour of the citadel. You’ll then have free time to explore. In the afternoon, we’ll return to Aguas Calientes and then to Cusco, arriving around 8:20 p.m.

Recommendations
- Pack as light as possible, as there are no porters on this hike.
- Bring your important documents with you, such as passport, valid student ID (if applicable), and migration card.
- Bring a small, lightweight backpack for the trek.
- Remember to bring a water reservoir, such as Camelbags, with a capacity of at least 2-3 liters.
- Wear comfortable, lightweight hiking boots with good soles.
- Don’t forget to include toiletries in your list, such as sunscreen, facial moisturizer, insect repellent, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, toothbrush and toothpaste, toilet paper, personal medication, and a first aid kit.
- Take note of the backpack size restrictions within Machu Picchu, backpacks larger than 25 liters will not be allowed.
- Bring water for the first morning, as there will be no time to filter water until the first lunch.
- Don’t forget to bring a hat for the sun, rain gear, a wool hat, a camera, music, hand sanitizer, toilet paper, and a small plastic bag for waste.
- Bring extra money for souvenirs, drinks, and tips.
- Consider bringing earplugs for better rest during the trip.
